Gunmen Abduct Anglican Bishop, Family In Ondo State

The Ondo State Security Network, known as Amotekun, has confirmed the incident. Olowolagba, who is associated with the Akoko Diocese, was taken on Saturday while traveling from Ipesi along Iboropa Road.

Sources indicate that the abductors have reached out to the bishop’s family and church members, demanding a ransom of N75 million. This shocking event has unsettled the Akoko North-East community.

Bishop Babajide Bada of the Akoko Anglican Diocese confirmed that the family was traveling from Ipesi to Isua Akoko at the time of the abduction. The kidnappers initially demanded N75 million, then reduced the amount to N10 million and later to N15 million.

Mr. Bada stated that they have reported the incident to Amotekun and other relevant authorities. “Amotekun is working tirelessly to secure the release of the victims. We have also contacted the hunters and informed the police in Ikare and Isua,” he said.

Amotekun’s commander, Adetunji Adeleye, confirmed the kidnapping and reassured that they are collaborating with other security agencies to facilitate the victims’ release.

The Ondo State Police Command, however, stated that they have not received an official report regarding the kidnapping. Police spokesperson Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya noted that she cannot confirm the situation until it is officially reported.

Kidnapping for ransom has become a troubling trend in Ondo State, often perpetrated by armed groups who hide their victims in the surrounding forests. This surge in abductions was one of the key reasons the state government established Amotekun.
