Health Experts And NGOs Collaborate To Promote Condom Use Among Nigerian Youths

The initiative, spearheaded by various health organizations including Pathfinder and Education as a Vaccine (EVA), emphasizes the importance of proper condom use as a preventive measure against diseases, particularly cervical cancer.

During a sensitization event held in Abuja to mark International Condom Day, experts stressed the critical role that condoms play in reducing the transmission of STIs and preventing unwanted pregnancies. Deputy Director of Health Education at the FCT Primary Health Care Board, Umeh Chinyere, highlighted the significance of condom adherence in disease prevention, especially cervical cancer.

Mrs. Umeh emphasized the need for collaborative efforts between the government and NGOs to raise awareness about the importance of condom usage. She noted that while the government plays a crucial role, partnerships with NGOs are essential for reaching schools and communities to educate young people about sexual health.

Bayo Ewuola, Media and Communication Officer at Pathfinder International, underscored the life-saving aspect of condoms, particularly on International Condom Day. He stressed the importance of raising awareness about both male and female condoms in preventing diseases and unwanted pregnancies among sexually active youths.

Ewuola emphasized the necessity of engaging young people and educating them on the importance and proper usage of condoms to empower them to make informed decisions about their sexual health.

The collaborative efforts of health experts and NGOs signify a proactive approach towards addressing sexual health challenges among Nigerian youths, with the ultimate goal of promoting safer sexual practices and reducing the prevalence of STIs and unplanned pregnancies in the country.
