Heathrow Drama: Air Peace Passengers Stage Protest Over Flight Delay

Passengers travelling to Nigeria on an Air Peace flight from London Heathrow Airport were left stranded overnight following a series of delays that sparked frustration and protests among those affected.

According to Ireporter Online, the flight, originally scheduled to depart at 9:20 p.m. on Saturday, was first delayed to 10:20 p.m. before communication from airline officials reportedly became limited, leaving passengers without clear updates for several hours. Travellers said the lack of information heightened tensions at the airport, with some describing the situation as chaotic as uncertainty lingered.

One passenger recounted that tempers flared after prolonged silence from officials, noting that the situation nearly escalated into a confrontation with an operational manager as passengers demanded clarity on their departure. The continued delay and absence of timely updates reportedly fueled anger among those waiting to board.

Affected passengers were eventually moved to a nearby hotel in the early hours of Sunday, with the airline later issuing an apology via email and announcing a new departure time of 3:00 p.m. the same day. While some travellers acknowledged the accommodation, they maintained that poor communication worsened their experience.

However, an airline official, who spoke anonymously, attributed the disruption to a technical fault and insisted that passengers were adequately informed and catered for. The official stated that hotel accommodations were provided in line with regulatory requirements and that travellers were given options, including rescheduling their flights or waiting for the next available service.

The airline also rejected claims that passengers were abandoned, arguing that necessary updates were communicated and that the narrative of neglect was inaccurate.

The incident comes amid heightened scrutiny of the airline, as the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority recently initiated an investigation into multiple complaints involving flight disruptions, delayed refunds, and compensation issues. Reports indicate that the regulator’s Consumer Protection Department has been activated to review recent incidents affecting passengers on the Heathrow–Abuja route, with authorities assuring that appropriate action will be taken based on established aviation regulations.
