Yusuf Shuts Down ‘One-Term’ Talk, Signals Bold Second-Term Ambition Under APC
Governor Abba Yusuf has clarified his political intentions amid growing reactions to a viral slogan suggesting he would serve only one term in office. The governor addressed the matter in a video circulating online, responding to the Hausa chant “Falle Daya,” meaning “one term,” which has recently been associated with his administration. According to Ireporter Online, Yusuf explained that the slogan should be understood within the context of his recent political shift, noting that while his tenure in the New Nigeria Peoples Party may be limited to one term, his broader political ambition extends beyond that period. He stated that a second term would be pursued under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
The governor also dismissed the likelihood of any emerging opposition gaining significant ground in the state, particularly referencing the African Democratic Congress, which he said lacks the capacity to secure even a single term in power. His comments come in the wake of his recent defection from the NNPP to the APC, a move that followed a prolonged political dispute involving his former ally, Rabiu Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement. Yusuf had earlier justified his decision as being in the best interest of Kano State residents, citing deepening internal crises and unresolved leadership issues within his former party. The development signals a broader political realignment in Kano as stakeholders position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
