The brief meeting between Trump and President Joe Biden was followed by a photo session, where Biden expressed his hopes for a smooth transition. Trump acknowledged the challenge of politics but thanked Biden for the orderly handover, to which Biden replied, “You’re welcome.”

Both leaders did not answer any questions from reporters. Unlike in 2020, when Trump refused to concede the election results and delayed Biden’s inauguration, the two men met amicably this time around.

Vice President Kamala Harris had conceded the election result to Trump the previous Wednesday in front of supporters in Washington.

First Lady Jill Biden also greeted Trump and handed him a handwritten letter for Melania Trump, offering support for the transition process.
