vehicle maintenance and driver negligence as primary causes.
According to FRSC spokesperson Olusegun Ogungbemide, the accident occurred around 11 a.m. when a Toyota Hiace bus traveling from Kano suffered a tire burst, leading to a loss of control and a head-on collision with a Dangote Group Sino truck. The collision resulted in multiple fatalities, primarily among the bus passengers.
The FRSC report indicated that 28 individuals were involved, including 23 adult men, one adult woman, one male child, and three female children. Among them, 15 died on the spot, while 13 others sustained injuries and were taken to Funtua General Hospital for treatment.
In response to the incident, FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed expressed concern over the prevalence of poor vehicle maintenance on Nigerian roads. He emphasized that adherence to speed limits, regular vehicle checks, and compliance with traffic regulations are critical in preventing such accidents. He urged transport unions, fleet operators, and individual vehicle owners to prioritize safety and ensure their vehicles are fit for the road, reminding all road users of their shared responsibility in preventing future tragedies.
