I Asked My Husband’s Friend for Money, He Took Me to His House, and He Offered Me S€x” – Mama Rainbow

Veteran Yoruba actress Idowu Philips, better known as Mama Rainbow, has opened up about a harrowing experience she faced after the death of her husband. In a candid interview with Doyin Kukoyi on the Doyin Kukoyi TV YouTube channel, Mama Rainbow revealed the emotional and financial struggles she encountered and shared a troubling encounter with one of her late husband’s friends.
Mama Rainbow described the period following her husband’s passing as one marked by significant hardship. Struggling to make ends meet, especially with her son’s university tuition fees looming, she sought help from her late husband’s friend. Desperate and hopeful for assistance, Mama Rainbow reached out, only to face an unsettling and inappropriate proposal.
In the interview, Mama Rainbow recounted, “When my son got admission into the university, I didn’t have the money to pay his tuition fees, so I needed help from my husband’s friend. He invited me to his house, offering to provide the financial support I needed. But his offer came with an unexpected condition.”
According to Mama Rainbow, the friend’s assistance was contingent upon her acquiescence to sexual advances. She shared, “He told me that he would give me the money if I came into his room. When we got there, I told him that I wasn’t feeling well and needed to leave. That was how I managed to escape from his house.”
Mama Rainbow’s testimony reveals the predatory nature of the friend’s behavior and highlights her resilience in the face of exploitation. Her account is a sobering reminder of the challenges that widows and other vulnerable individuals can face, especially when seeking help during times of need. The actress’s bravery in sharing this deeply personal story serves as an inspiration, shedding light on the importance of maintaining integrity and offering support to those who find themselves in precarious situations.
This interview not only underscores the difficult realities faced by many in similar circumstances but also calls attention to the broader issue of exploitation and the necessity of compassionate and ethical support systems. Mama Rainbow’s story is a powerful testament to the strength required to overcome such adversities and the critical need for empathy and integrity in times of crisis.
