If You Picked Me from The Gutter, Why Are You Still In The Gutter?  – Abaribe Fires Back At Senator Kalu 

Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has reacted to a derogatory statement made about him by the Senate Chief Whip, Orji Uzor Kalu. Recall that Senator Kalu had said during a campaign of the All Progressives Congress (APC) that he picked Abaribe from the gutter and made him deputy governor.

The former Abia state governor also said Abaribe was shameless, alleging that the Abia South senator had nothing to show for the 16 years he had represented the senatorial district at the National Assembly.

However, in his reaction, Senator Abaribe said he was worried that Senator Kalu had refused to leave the gutter where he allegedly picked him, The Guardian reported. He said: “If Kalu said he picked me from the gutters, why is he still in the gutter? That is the question and I think the matter should end there.”

On the allegations that he had not attracted any project to his constituency, Abaribe said it is his constituency that should be bothered about the quality of his representation, not Senator Kalu. Both Kalu and Abaribe were elected in 1999 as governor and deputy governor respectively. However, their political romance did not last as Abaribe was impeached.

The senator was responding to comments credited to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and Senator Abaribe who is the Senate minority leader. The duo recently mocked Kalu saying he had not recovered from his prison experience after he asserted that roads in Abia were either funded by the federal government or Niger Delta Development Commission.
