Senator representing Kogi East in the National Assembly, Isah Jibrin, has dismissed reports alleging that he withdrew from the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary race ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to reports, the lawmaker issued a statement on Thursday denying claims that he had stepped down from the contest, stressing that he neither withdrew from the race nor authorised anyone to speak on his behalf concerning the primary election.

The clarification followed the announcement by the APC on Monday declaring Joseph Erico as the winner of the party’s senatorial primary in Kogi East.

Despite the development, Jibrin maintained that he remains the legitimate APC candidate for the district and reaffirmed his determination to continue representing the people of Kogi East in the National Assembly.

The senator stated that at no point did he communicate, either verbally or officially, any intention to abandon his ambition to return to the Senate in 2027. He added that he remains focused and fully prepared to continue providing what he described as quality representation for the people of the constituency.

Jibrin also accused unnamed political opponents of sponsoring false reports aimed at misleading party stakeholders and causing confusion within the APC. He urged party leaders, supporters, and residents of the district to disregard what he described as propaganda and politically motivated misinformation.

The lawmaker further alleged that those behind the reports had resorted to desperate tactics after failing to gain the confidence and support of the electorate. According to him, attempts to spread falsehood and create tension within the party would not weaken the backing he continues to enjoy from the people of Kogi East.

He insisted that no amount of propaganda, fabricated statements, or coordinated misinformation campaigns would diminish the trust and goodwill the people of the district have continued to show him.
