Illegal NIN Trade Exposed In Anambra Guber Race: DSS and Police Arrest Culprits
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has confirmed the arrest of individuals involved in purchasing National Identity Numbers (NINs) from voters in Anambra State ahead of the November 8th governorship election……..READ MORE
According to a statement released on Wednesday by NIMC spokesperson, Kayode Adegoke, politicians had been actively seeking out NINs from local residents in exchange for monetary compensation.
Adegoke emphasized that the unlawful solicitation of NINs violated the NIMC Act No. 23 of 2007, the Data Protection Act, and the Cyber Crime Act. He confirmed that the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) were involved in the swift arrest of those behind the illegal activity. These individuals are currently under interrogation and will face legal action.
The NIMC spokesperson issued a stern warning to Anambra residents, urging them not to hand over their NINs for any financial incentive, as it is a breach of federal law. He reiterated the commission’s earlier directive against sharing NIN data with unauthorized individuals or on fake websites.
Adegoke clarified that the NIN should only be used by its holders to access legitimate government or private sector services, and its authenticity must be verified.
