No Rift with Gov. Alia: SGF Akume Opens Up On Political Tensions In Benue

Reports have circulated about tensions between Akume and Alia over control of the state’s political machinery, which supposedly began after Alia assumed office two years ago. In 2024, Tor Tiv, the paramount ruler of the Tiv nation, reportedly intervened to mediate the situation.

However, speaking on Arise TV’s Morning Show, the Special Adviser on Public Affairs to the SGF, Terrence Kuanum, clarified that there was no dispute between Akume and Alia. Kuanum emphasized that Akume only seeks the governor’s collaboration for the benefit of the people, confirming that the Tor Tiv had advised both leaders to work together.

Kuanum stressed, “The lives of our people are at stake here. There is no fighting. The SGF has always been supportive, asking for prayers for the governor to succeed.”

He further added that there was fairness in Benue and that the SGF is a peaceful and humble person, prioritizing the well-being of the people over politics.
