IMF $800m Loan: FG To Watch Debt Service Ratio
At a recent interview granted by Adolphus Arebanmhen Aletor, a Gubernatorial aspirant in the forthcoming Edo state election on a national television “Business Rendezvous” he advised the federal government to watch the debt service coverage ratio and the revenue to GDP ratio of Nigeria before engaging in more borrowings.
He advised the government not to heed the recommendations of advisers who insist that the headroom in the nation’s debt to GDP ratio allows for more borrowing. He explained that a country servicing its debt with over 90% of its revenue and with a revenue to GDP ratio of about 8% should not borrow except it is for critical infrastructure with realisable and steady streams of revenue.
