In Just One Week, He Suffered Two Primary Defeats In Different Parties” — Odinkalu Mocks Omo-Agege
According to Ireporter Online, former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Chidi Odinkalu has taken a swipe at former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, over his recent political setbacks.
Odinkalu, speaking via a post on X, suggested that Omo-Agege could not have foreseen his present political struggles, recalling his alleged involvement in the controversial removal of the Senate mace in 2018.
He noted that Omo-Agege had recently experienced multiple political losses within a single week, including his exit from the All Progressives Congress and defeats in senatorial primaries conducted in two different political parties.
In his remarks, Odinkalu stated that leadership is a voluntary pursuit and expressed concern that those who seek it for genuine reasons are sometimes repeatedly denied opportunities. He also referenced past controversies, alleging that Omo-Agege’s political actions during his time in the Senate reflected a willingness to go to extreme lengths for political advantage.
He further claimed that the former Deputy Senate President had been politically displaced in a short period, saying he was effectively removed from the APC and suffered primary defeats in two separate parties, one against a male candidate and another against a female aspirant.
Despite the criticism, Odinkalu acknowledged Omo-Agege’s influence in strengthening the APC in Delta State, noting that his political contributions once gave the party stronger visibility in the region.
He concluded that the development highlights the transient nature of political power, adding that recent events within Nigeria’s political landscape serve as a reminder that political rewards and influence are often temporary.
