INEC Reassures Public On IReV System Before Edo Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured the public of the functionality of its Result Viewing Portal (IReV) as it prepares for the Edo State Governorship election. INEC acknowledged the previous issues with IReV and is confident in its enhanced capabilities for the upcoming poll.

Rotimi Oyekanmi, Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, addressed concerns about past glitches during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today. He emphasized that the commission has made significant improvements based on lessons learned from previous elections.

Oyekanmi noted, “Technology is beneficial but not infallible. Glitches can occur, as seen with global tech companies. However, we have addressed past issues and are prepared for the Edo election.”

The Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines, integral to the election process, have also been confirmed as fully operational. Oyekanmi reassured voters that past election results are accessible on the IReV portal, highlighting that the system’s reliability has improved since previous elections.

This will be INEC’s third governorship election in Edo, with Oyekanmi noting past successes in 2016 and 2020. He expressed confidence that the improvements will ensure a smooth electoral process this time.
