JUST IN: Buhari Meets New NDDC Chairman Onochie (PHOTOS)

Mrs Lauretta Onochie, the newly appointed Chairman of the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), briefed President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday.

The meeting at the State House was Onochie’s first with Buhari since her nomination was confirmed last week.

The Senate confirmed Onochie’s nomination, as well as the nominations of 12 other NDDC board members.

Onochie and 13 other candidates for NDDC board positions were screened by the Niger Delta Committees of the Senate and House of Representatives on December 15th.

Buhari had written to the Senate requesting that the appointment of the Chairman and Members of the Commission’s Board be confirmed in accordance with Section 2(2)(a) of the NDDC (Establishment) Act.

However, some committee members objected to Onochie’s nomination, citing the fact that she is not from an oil-producing community in Delta State, which is prohibited by the NDDC Act.
