JUST IN: Setback For Peter Obi As Kano LP Governorship Candidate Joins APC, Endorses Tinubu

Bashir Bashir, the Labour Party’s Kano governorship candidate, has abandoned his ambition to join the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

On January 21, the governorship candidate, along with the chairman of the Presidential Campaign Council, Mohammed Zarewa, the state coordinator of Peter Obi’s campaign, Balarabe Wakili, and a member of the presidential campaign council, Idris Dambazau, boycotted the party’s presidential rally in Kano.

According to a source close to the candidate, Mr Bashir and other LP leaders defected to the APC on Sunday, citing the exclusion of major Northern stakeholders in decision-making processes and a lack of clear direction in the interest of Northern Nigeria.

According to Daily Nigerian, Mr Bashir had two meetings with the APC presidential candidate as well as the vice presidential candidate Kashim Shettima in Lagos and Abuja and agreed on the defection terms.

According to a source familiar with the decision, the LP candidate endorsed the APC presidential candidate and promised to mobilize his supporters for him.
