Justice Prevails: Ex-Abia Attorney General Reinstated As Senior Advocate Of Nigeria After After Controversy

The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has exonerated former Abia State Attorney General, Chief Uche Ihediwa, of all misconduct allegations and reinstated his status as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).…….READ MORE

Ihediwa served as the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Abia State from 2015 to 2023 under Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s administration. However, on July 1, 2024, the LPPC suspended his SAN title pending an investigation into certain claims against him.

The suspension followed a petition by former Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) President, Yakubu Maikyau, SAN, addressed to the then Chief Justice of Nigeria and LPPC Chairman, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola. The petition alleged that Ihediwa had made inappropriate statements during the 2023 International Bar Association conference in Paris, where he claimed there was corruption in the judicial appointment process in Abia State during his tenure.

After a comprehensive review, the LPPC, at its 163rd General Meeting on February 6, 2025, found no evidence of wrongdoing and reinstated Ihediwa’s SAN rank.

In an official statement, LPPC Secretary Sarki Bello confirmed that the committee had thoroughly assessed the NBA’s petition before concluding that Ihediwa’s suspension was unwarranted. His reinstatement to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria officially took effect on February 6, 2025.

“The LPPC, on February 6, 2025, after considering all material facts, resolved to restore Chief Uche C. Ihediwa to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN),” the statement read. “Pursuant to this decision, Chief Uche Ihediwa is hereby reinstated, effective immediately. The general public is hereby informed.”
