Telecom Tariff Hike Is ‘Mass Murder’ On Businesses – NLC’s Upah Explodes

The National Publicity Secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Benson Upah, has criticized the recent increase in telecommunication tariffs, arguing that there is no justification for such a hike.

Ireporteronline reports that Upah stated telecom service providers have long made substantial profits, enough to maintain and upgrade their infrastructure without burdening consumers.……READ MORE

In an interview with Arise News, Upah accused the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) of colluding with telecom companies to implement unjustified tariff increases. He emphasized that with the rapid expansion of telecom subscribers, prices should be decreasing, not rising.

He described the 50% tariff hike as “corporate greed” and warned that it would negatively impact businesses and individuals, leading to economic hardship. Upah further pointed out that telecom companies have historically made enormous profits, yet they have not reinvested sufficiently in infrastructure development.

The NLC has vowed to resist the increase and has urged Nigerians to stand against what it calls an unfair and exploitative move by telecom providers.
