Kate Henshaw And Carol King Take The Stage At ‘No More Shrinking

According to Ireporter Online, Nollywood stars Kate Henshaw and Carol King were among the prominent attendees of the theatrical production, No More Shrinking: The Stage, held at Terra Kulture in Lagos on March 28. The performance, adapted from Dr. Abiola Salami’s best-selling book of the same name, delivered a powerful message encouraging women to assert themselves in leadership and professional arenas.

Salami, who has been at the forefront of women’s empowerment advocacy, described the production as more than just a stage show. “It is about closing the gap that still exists for women in leadership and professional spaces,” he said, highlighting the evolution of the project from a 2025 podcast to a book, and now a fully staged experience.

The musical adaptation, featuring original compositions by Salami, aims to create an immersive journey that resonates with women’s lived experiences. “Many women occupy influential positions yet still shrink from opportunities or hesitate to share bold ideas. It’s not that we lack competent women — the real gap is often confidence,” he added.

Salami also emphasized the nuanced nature of empowerment, noting that while some women struggle with under-confidence, others overcompensate in ways that can hinder progress. “Invisibility is more dangerous than incompetence. Incompetence can be fixed with training, but when you are invisible, no one sees your value,” he cautioned.

Directed by Austin Onuoha, the play translates written narratives into emotionally charged stage moments, offering audiences an experience where emotions unfold live before their eyes. Henshaw, reflecting on the performance, echoed its central theme: “I’m not going to shrink for anybody.”
