Katsina Anti-Corruption Commission Seeks For Support From Police, NSCDC, Others

The Katsina State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission on Thursday sought for maximum support from the Police, the Shari’ah Court, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and other relevant stakeholders in the state.

Executive Chairman of the Commission, Justice Lawal Garba (Retired), who led a delegation for a familiarization tour across the sister agencies, explained that the commission is also a prosecution agency that hears complaints.

Justice Garba while at the State Police Command Headquarters, urged the command to assist the commission with investigative officers especially those working without uniform.

“I started my carrier as magistrate grade II and rose up to a rank of a high court judge, so I know the importance of the police especially those without the uniform like the CID because it’s investigation which should be conducted mostly under cover and we can not accomplish the task without the police going by the law. So, we need this partnership”, he added.

In his response, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, charged the commission to incorporate retired police officers of the rank of either Assistant Commissioner of Police or Deputy Commissioner of Police to facilitate their work.

He, therefore, promised to give the commission intelligence and experienced investigators and deploy adequate security personnel to man the commission headquarters.

“Why didn’t you incorporate a retired police officer from the rank of officer either AC or DC to be part of the commission to facilitate your work?”, he queried.

While at the Katsina Shari’a Court, the commission’s delegation visited the State Grand Khadi, Dr Muhammad Kabir Abubakar, who pledged to support the commission, charging them to be patient and rededicate themselves in their job.

“From the year 2000 to date, all the recruited judges in the state are educated with all their activities executed in line with Quran and Hadith.

“The State Government has since inception in 2023, come up with a lot of initiatives where a lot of successes have been achieved,” he noted.

In the meantime, the commission also visited the State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, where the Commandant, CC Jamilu Indabawa, advised the commission to build people’s confidence across the board especially when it comes to whistle blowing.

Indabawa represented by the Command’s Head of Administration and Personnel, DC Ibrahim Bako, announced that the command has anti-corruption and transparency units coincidentally.

“Some people find it very difficult even if they have enough information because confidentiality is not guaranteed”, he stated.
