Okonkwo claimed that Abure’s leadership has lost the confidence of many party members, including lawmakers who have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He urged Abure to resign and make way for new leadership to reform the party.

The call comes after several lawmakers and party officials, including the LP’s governorship candidate in Bayelsa State, Udengs Eradiri, and his running mate, announced their resignation from the party. Okonkwo believes that Abure’s departure would allow the LP to become a strong opposition party capable of defeating the APC in future elections.
