Kwara Commissioner Decries Delay in WASSCE Exams Over Late Arrival of Materials

Kwara State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, has expressed deep concern over the delays encountered during the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) across the state, attributing the disruption to the late arrival of examination materials.

The commissioner made this known during an unscheduled inspection of various secondary schools in Moro, Ilorin East, Ilorin South, and Ilorin West Local Government Areas. A statement issued by the ministry’s press secretary, Peter Amogbonjaye, confirmed the development.

Describing the situation — including disruptions in the English Language paper — as “regrettable,” Olohungbebe called on the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to strengthen its logistics operations and implement preventive measures to avoid similar issues in future exams.

Despite the challenges, the commissioner commended students, teachers, and parents for their patience and discipline. “Their calm and orderly conduct ensured the exams continued as soon as materials became available,” he said.

He reiterated the state government’s unwavering commitment to providing quality education and ensuring the smooth conduct of public examinations through strategic partnerships with stakeholders.

The commissioner’s inspection covered several public and private institutions, including Government Day Secondary School, Shao; Army Day Secondary School, Sobi; Government Day Secondary School, Karuma; and Government Day Secondary School, Oja-Gbooro. Others were Al-Mumeen International School, Ilorin East; Government Day Secondary School, Oke-Kere, Ilorin South; as well as Ansarul Islam Secondary School and College of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Ilorin West.
