Labour Party Selects Candidates For Nasarawa, Enugu, Rivers And Ondo By-Elections

The Labour Party has announced its candidates for the forthcoming by-elections across Nasarawa, Enugu, Rivers, Ondo, Kano and Kebbi States, following a series of consensus-based primaries conducted in line with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) timetable.

According to Ireporter Online, former Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, emerged as the party’s candidate for the Nasarawa North Senatorial District. His emergence was confirmed after a consensus arrangement held at the party’s zonal office in Nasarawa North on Monday, with party members reportedly turning out in large numbers to endorse his candidacy.

In Enugu State, the Labour Party also settled on seasoned diplomat Simon Ejike Eze as its flagbearer for the Enugu North Senatorial District by-election. The exercise was described by party officials as peaceful and orderly, with stakeholders across the district participating in the consensus process.

The party further announced Engr. Sam Kinanee as its candidate for the Rivers South-East Senatorial District, while Barrister Ige Aiyeobasan Asemudara emerged as the party’s standard bearer for the Ondo South Senatorial District.

For the Dawaki Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency in Kano State, Abubakar Yahaya Muhammad was selected, while Muhammad Aliyu Galadima secured the party’s ticket for the Zuru State Constituency by-election in Kebbi State.

According to the statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Ken Asogwa, all candidates emerged through transparent consensus arrangements conducted in line with democratic principles. The party noted that the primaries were peaceful and successfully held across the affected constituencies.

The Labour Party also recalled that the senatorial seats in Enugu North, Nasarawa North, and Rivers South-East became vacant following the deaths of serving senators, while the Ondo South seat became vacant after the resignation of former senator Jimoh Ibrahim, who was appointed Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

The party commended INEC for its professionalism and effective monitoring of the primaries, describing the process as credible and well-managed. It also congratulated its successful candidates and urged members and supporters to unite ahead of the elections.

Reaffirming its position, the party stated that its selections were guided by competence, integrity, and commitment to social democracy, adding that it remains focused on presenting credible candidates who can effectively represent the interests of Nigerians.
