Under the leadership of Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, the Assembly convened for a crucial plenary session, addressing pressing matters including the imperative need for enhanced security measures.

In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to Speaker Obasa, Eromosele Ebhomele, the Assembly reiterated its commitment to bolstering security efforts in the state, particularly in light of recent kidnapping incidents.

Speaker Obasa emphasized the urgency of the situation, citing the recent attack on a commercial bus and the subsequent abduction of passengers, which underscored the gravity of the security challenges facing the nation.

Calling upon the National Assembly to expedite constitutional amendments, Obasa stressed the imperative of state police formation, highlighting the overburdened nature of the current security apparatus.

Addressing concerns about potential abuse of power, Speaker Obasa reassured that adequate safeguards would be put in place to prevent misuse of state police forces.

Additionally, the Assembly advocated for increased support to the Neighbourhood Safety Corps, emphasizing the importance of equipping and empowering local security initiatives.

In a multi-faceted approach to addressing insecurity, the Assembly also underscored the significance of addressing underlying factors such as poverty and unemployment, advocating for youth engagement programs, including sports, to steer young individuals away from criminal activities.

Echoing these sentiments, various legislators reiterated the urgent need for proactive measures, enhanced security surveillance, and proper urban planning to accommodate the influx of people into Lagos.
