Charged under the suit CR/042/2023, the ex-union leaders, including former National Chairman Lucky Osesua, found themselves facing a litany of accusations ranging from attempted murder to breach of peace and assault.

Among those accused are Dayyabu Garga, Humble Obinna, and several others, all alleged to have been involved in a violent confrontation that targeted prominent figures within NUPENG leadership.

The incident, which occurred at PTD’s office in Abuja on November 1, saw NUPENG President Williams Akporeha, General Secretary Wale Afolabi, and newly elected National Chairman Augustine Egbon allegedly targeted in an attack with intent to cause harm.

Despite their pleas of not guilty, the defendants found themselves entangled in legal proceedings as the prosecution sought to strengthen its case with additional evidence.

While the prosecution signaled readiness to proceed with the trial, the defense sought an adjournment, citing a motion concerning a change in legal representation.

Defense counsel Christopher Oshomegie emphasized the need for the defendants to address issues surrounding legal representation, urging the court to grant a brief postponement to allow for this.

Amidst claims of ongoing misconduct by the defendants, Oshomegie vehemently defended his clients, portraying them as upstanding individuals unjustly targeted by powerful interests.
