The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has announced a further extension of the deadline for filing individual annual income tax returns, shifting the date from April 14 to April 21, 2026.

According to Ireporter Online, the agency disclosed this development in an official statement issued on Saturday, expressing appreciation to taxpayers for their continued compliance and dedication to meeting their civic obligations. The statement, signed by Monsurat Amasa-Oyelude, Head of Corporate Communications at LIRS, explained that the decision was influenced by a surge in activity on the agency’s electronic tax platform.

The tax authority noted that a significant increase in traffic was recorded on its eTax portal as many taxpayers made last-minute attempts to meet the earlier deadline. In response, LIRS said the extension was necessary to provide adequate time for individuals to successfully complete and submit their returns without disruption.

LIRS emphasized that the new deadline represents a final extension and urged taxpayers to take full advantage of the additional window to fulfill their statutory responsibilities. It reiterated that filing annual income tax returns remains a legal requirement for all eligible individuals.

The Executive Chairman of LIRS, Ayodele Subair, further stressed that all submissions must be completed electronically through the official eTax platform, which remains the sole approved channel for filing. Taxpayers were advised to utilize the designated portal for their submissions, while those requiring assistance can visit any LIRS office or reach out through the agency’s official communication channels.
