Lagos Media Stations Disrupted Over Unpaid Minimum Wage

The protest, which had been warned in advance by workers, also demanded that employees be placed on the Oracle payroll system. Workers had previously issued several warnings to the management, signaling their intention to strike if the government-mandated wage was not implemented.

On Monday morning, the workers blocked entry and exit points to the Agidingbi complex, holding signs with messages such as “Give us Oracle and take the revenue generated,” “Oracle is the answer,” and “Pay us Minimum Wage.”

Funmi Sessi, the NLC Chairperson for Lagos State, led the peaceful protest. Addressing the media, she assured that the demonstration would remain peaceful, emphasizing that the workers’ demands for fair treatment were legitimate.

Sessi highlighted the injustice faced by the workers at the affected stations, stressing that despite their dedication, they have not received the ₦85,000 minimum wage, nor the arrears owed to them. “The government has implemented the minimum wage since November, but these workers have yet to receive it. Why this disparity?” she questioned.

The union also expressed frustration over the lack of resolution despite multiple attempts to engage the management through proper channels. Sessi appealed to the Lagos State Governor for intervention, acknowledging his empathy towards workers but urging him to ensure management takes immediate action to avoid further disruptions.
