Lagos Police Prohibit Covered Plates And Unregistered Cars

According to Ireporter Online, the Lagos State Police Command has announced a ban on covering vehicle number plates and the use of excessively tinted glass on cars in the state. The directive, which also prohibits the use of unregistered vehicles, was communicated by the Commissioner of Police, Jimoh Olohundare, during a press briefing on Monday, March 9.

The commissioner stated that the ban follows instructions from the Inspector-General of Police, Disu Olatunji, aimed at promoting professionalism, supervision, and discipline within the force. Olohundare emphasized that motorists must comply with the new rules, noting that covering license plates or using heavily tinted front and right-side windows is strictly forbidden.

He further revealed that the Lagos command had begun sensitizing officers on the directives less than 24 hours after the meeting, with the goal of enhancing policing standards and service delivery across the state. Officers have been urged to ensure strict supervision, respect for human rights, and adherence to international best practices while performing their duties.

The commissioner also encouraged the adoption of community policing strategies, highlighting the importance of collaborating with residents to address local security challenges. He warned that human rights violations by police personnel would not be tolerated, reinforcing the need to uphold the dignity and rights of citizens.

Additionally, the Inspector-General has directed police commands nationwide to return to core policing principles, including closer public engagement and improved training in crime prevention and security management, particularly during major events.
