Sokoto State has made security its top agenda, providing facilities for military operations and strengthening collaboration with federal agencies.

The Special Adviser on Security Matters to Governor Ahmad Aliyu, Col. Ahmed Usman (retd.), revealed that the government is setting up Forward Operation Bases and enhancing surveillance infrastructure. These measures aim to bolster ongoing operations such as Fansan Yamma.

The Defence Minister, Muhammad Abubakar, expressed confidence in the military’s ability to dismantle the sect, following successful strikes on their hideouts. Meanwhile, local governments and vigilante groups are working closely with federal forces to secure rural communities.

The Sokoto State government has also launched initiatives, including youth empowerment programs and conflict resolution mechanisms, to address root causes of insecurity.

In Kebbi State, authorities are focused on logistics support for troops and empowering local vigilante groups. District heads emphasize the importance of permanent security presence and strengthened border monitoring to prevent sect members from regrouping.

Community leaders, while commending the government’s efforts, suggest exploring dialogue with the sect to ensure lasting peace. Others, however, support intensified military action, warning of potential consequences without sustained security deployment.

Despite challenges, affected states and federal agencies are united in combating the Lakurawa sect’s spread, aiming for a coordinated and effective resolution.
