The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election, securing a second term in office after a commanding performance across the state’s 16 local government areas.

The announcement was made in the early hours of Sunday by the Chief Returning Officer for the election, Professor Adenike Oladiji, who disclosed that Oyebanji polled a total of 319,224 votes to emerge victorious.

According to the official results released by the electoral commission, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Oluwole Oluyede, came a distant second with 40,543 votes, while Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) garnered 12,872 votes.

Professor Oladiji further revealed that 384,940 voters were accredited for the election, with 375,777 valid votes recorded and 6,332 ballots rejected.

In Ado-Ekiti Local Government Area, Oyebanji secured 38,026 votes against the PDP’s 3,817 and ADC’s 1,054 votes. The APC candidate also recorded strong victories in Irepodun/Ifelodun with 29,278 votes, Ekiti West with 28,258 votes, Ikole with 26,508 votes, Ekiti East with 26,359 votes, and Ijero with 25,506 votes.

The PDP’s strongest showing came in Ikere Local Government Area, where it polled 9,892 votes against Oyebanji’s 11,116 votes, though the APC candidate still maintained a lead.

The outcome confirms Oyebanji’s widespread acceptance among voters and reinforces the APC’s dominance in Ekiti State politics, as the governor prepares to embark on another four-year term in office.
