The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Rabiu Garba Aiki of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the Zuru State Constituency by-election in Kebbi State.

The declaration was made on Saturday after Aiki secured 4,887 votes, defeating his closest challenger, Aliyu Galadima Muhammad of the Labour Party, who garnered 168 votes.

The result was officially announced at the collation centre by the Returning Officer and Collation Officer, Prof. Muhammad Bashar of the Federal University, Birnin Kebbi. Electoral figures released by INEC showed that the APC candidate dominated the poll, emerging victorious in all ten wards where voting took place.

According to the official results, the constituency has a total of 109,385 registered voters, while 5,156 voters were accredited to participate in the election. A total of 5,055 valid votes were recorded, with 95 ballots rejected.

The outcome reflected a decisive victory for the APC candidate, who secured the overwhelming majority of votes cast during the exercise.

The by-election was conducted to fill the vacancy created by the death of Muhammad Usman Zuru, the former Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly. His passing left the constituency without representation, necessitating the conduct of a fresh election in line with electoral regulations.

With the latest result, the APC has successfully retained the Zuru State Constituency seat in the Kebbi State House of Assembly, further consolidating its influence within the legislature.

Reports indicated that the election was largely peaceful, with security personnel and electoral officials effectively overseeing the process across polling units. However, voter turnout remained relatively low, as only a small percentage of registered voters participated in the poll.
