LP Akpata Throws Weight Behind NLC Strike, Urges FG to Prioritize Plight of Common Man Amidst Economic Turmoil
Written By Oshiobugie John
The gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party, Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata has thrown his unreserved support behind the ongoing industrial uproar orchestrated by the National Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress.
Akpata, via the viral statement, asserted that organized labor is simply exercising their rights despite many Nigerians across the country being affected by their strike, which was initiated to compel the recalcitrant federal government under President Tinubu to swiftly increase the minimum wage.
Bravely confronting the economic tumult gripping the nation, Akpata lambasted the incumbent administration’s laissez-faire attitude towards the plight of the common man. Against a backdrop of soaring inflation, exorbitant fuel prices, and escalating utility tariffs, the steadfast champion of the people decried the paltry minimum wage of thirty thousand naira as an insult to the dignity of Nigerian workers.
The Labour Party gubernatorial candidate summoned President Tinubu to honor his own rhetoric from the recent International Worker’s Day festivities, where he grandiloquently proclaimed the possibility of a “living wage.”
Akpata didn’t stop there. In a rallying cry that resonated with the masses, he implored all stakeholders – the Federal Government, organized labor, and the private sector – to cast aside their differences and engage in earnest negotiations, with the welfare of the people at the forefront of their agenda.
In this era of economic uncertainty, Akpata’s impassioned plea for justice reverberates far beyond the political arena, igniting a spark of hope in the hearts of millions of downtrodden Nigerians clamoring for a fairer, more equitable society.
