LP Representative Urges Tinubu To Secure Nnamdi Kanu’s Unconditional Release

Kanu, who has been in detention since his extradition from Kenya in June 2020, faces charges of alleged terrorism by the Federal Government. Despite a Court of Appeal order for his release on health grounds in 2022, the Federal Government appealed to the Supreme Court, prolonging Kanu’s detention at the Department of State Services (DSS) facility.
Aguocha, in a statement issued on Saturday, urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to utilize his influence to secure Kanu’s release, emphasizing that there is no justification for his continued custody, especially when other individuals like Godwin Emefiele, Omoyele Sowore, and Sunday Igboho are free.
Highlighting the unequal treatment of Kanu compared to other accused citizens, Aguocha questioned the fairness of the legal system, particularly regarding individuals from different regions. He appealed for equal justice for all citizens, regardless of their region or religion.
In calling for Kanu’s unconditional release, Aguocha emphasized the importance of justice and peace for the development and well-being of the South East region and its people.
