Chaos On Otedola Bridge As Two Heavy-Duty Trucks Collide, One Critically Injured

Tragedy struck along the Otedola Bridge axis inward Berger–Ojodu in Lagos on Wednesday following a violent collision between two heavy-duty trucks, which left one driver critically injured.

According to Ireporter Online, the crash involved a 14-tyre Scania truck loaded with tonnes of wheat and a 6-tyre Iveco mini-truck conveying cartons of Gala sausage rolls. Preliminary findings indicated that both drivers were locked in a reckless struggle for the Right of Way (ROW) before the collision occurred.

Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), led by the Director of the Incident Management and Enforcement Unit, Mr. Akeem Adeoshun, swiftly arrived at the scene to coordinate rescue efforts. Adeoshun confirmed that the driver of the 14-tyre truck sustained severe injuries to his legs and head.

He stated that the joint rescue team, comprising LASTMA officials, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Nigeria Police Force, carefully extricated the victim from the mangled vehicle before rushing him to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention. “Our foremost duty in any rescue mission is the preservation of human life,” Adeoshun emphasized.

Due to the severity of the crash, the affected section of the expressway from Otedola Bridge inward Berger was temporarily closed to allow for safe recovery operations. Heavy-duty machinery was deployed to offload the truck’s contents and clear the wreckage, after which normal traffic flow was restored.

Reacting to the incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare–Oki, described the crash as “an avoidable tragedy,” expressing concern over the rising cases of recklessness among truck drivers. He condemned the increasing rate of dangerous driving and unlawful competition for the Right of Way, stressing that such behavior continues to threaten lives and disrupt order on Lagos roads.
