LP Youth Leader Criticizes NLC For Protest At National Secretariat In Abuja

Scores of protesters from the NLC Political Commission had stormed the LP’s national headquarters, demanding the removal of the National Chairman, Julius Abure. However, they were denied access to the party secretariat by security personnel stationed in the area.
In a conversation with The Punch, the LP’s National Youth Leader, Kennedy Ahanotu, expressed his dismay at the handling of the situation by the NLC. He condemned the nationwide picketing of the party’s secretariats by NLC protesters, characterizing it as an abuse of power.
Ahanotu emphasized that while the NLC has a right to protest if it is lawful, they must also respect the boundaries of the law. He stressed that the NLC should prioritize addressing workers’ issues such as minimum wage, healthcare, and security concerns instead of engaging in political activities.
Furthermore, Ahanotu warned against the NLC displaying partisanship in practical politics, noting that the organization should remain focused on holding the government accountable rather than involving itself in partisan activities.
He also raised concerns about the prolonged tenure of the chairman and secretary of the NLC Political Commission, questioning the democratic principles behind such extended terms.
Ahanotu concluded by urging both the NLC and the LP to refrain from engaging in power plays and instead focus on constructive dialogue and actions that benefit Nigerian workers and the nation as a whole.
