Initially scheduled for March 29th, the LP leadership adjusted the convention date to March 27th, citing Good Friday as the reason for the change, acknowledging its significance in the Christian faith worldwide.

However, in a statement to journalists, Afam Ogene, the leader of the LP caucus in the lower legislative chambers, called for a delay in the national convention to ensure thorough planning. Ogene emphasized the importance of comprehensive consultations and inclusivity among stakeholders.

According to Ogene, the party should prioritize ward congresses before proceeding with a national convention. He expressed concerns over the apparent lack of consultation with key stakeholders, including parliamentary colleagues, throughout the planning process.
