Labour Party Crisis: Supporters Of Julius Abure Stage Protest In Abuja
In a demonstration of solidarity, supporters of Julius Abure, the factional National Chairman of the Labour Party, convened a protest in Gudu, Abuja, on Monday. Brandishing placards adorned with various messages, the demonstrators commenced their march from the new Abuja chapter secretariat.
The conflict between the Nigerian Labour Congress and the Labour Party has been ongoing. Initially, the NLC accused Abure of unilaterally overseeing the affairs of the LP, prompting the NLC to issue a vote of no confidence in his leadership and demand his resignation.
The discord between the two entities has attracted widespread attention and raised pertinent questions about the legal authority of the NLC to intervene in LP matters, as well as the root causes and repercussions of their disagreement.
According to investigations by Vanguard, the ongoing power struggle between the Julius Abure-led National Working Committee of the Labour Party and the Joe Ajaero-led Nigeria Labour Congress threatens the party’s future existence.
Reports suggest that the primary source of contention is the battle for control over the party’s organizational framework. While key stakeholders have accused Abure of managing the party’s affairs autocratically, Abure vehemently refutes these allegations.
