According to Ireporter Online, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has taken a swipe at Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, describing him as a “social media president” who politicizes every issue.

Wike made the statement on Thursday during the inauguration of newly completed roads — Esther Bali Street and Kez Udezue Street — in the Mabushi District of Abuja. The minister’s outburst came in response to Peter Obi’s recent visit to the LEA Primary School in Kapwa, Abuja, where the former Anambra governor had lamented the poor state of the school and the lack of toilet facilities.

Wike faulted Obi for taking his observations to the public instead of reaching out privately to the FCT Administration or the relevant authorities. The FCT Minister further accused Obi of hypocrisy, alleging that during his tenure as governor of Anambra State, he failed to provide adequate development, instead saving public funds in personal bank accounts to earn interest — a decision Wike claimed has continued to affect Obi’s successors negatively.

He said, “The road we are commissioning today was brought to our attention by a responsible citizen, and I’m glad that individual is present here today. But there is one social media man who calls himself a presidential candidate; he went to one school in the FCT and said we didn’t provide toilets for them — imagine! He politicizes everything.”

Wike continued, “When he was governor for eight years, did he develop the entire Anambra? Instead, he deposited the state’s money in his bank. That’s why those who came after him have been struggling. I challenge him to publicly compare his eight-year record in Anambra with what we have achieved in the FCT within just two years. Someone who cannot manage a political party wants to manage a complex country like Nigeria — he will remain a social media president.”
