In response to Obasanjo’s recent statement that even Satan can produce leaders who will fail, Lukman penned an open letter titled “Satanic Leadership and Nigeria’s Boiling Point,” urging the former President to reflect on his past mistakes rather than continue seeking praise for his previous accomplishments.

Lukman stressed that Obasanjo and others who practiced the imposition of candidates bear a large share of the responsibility for the ongoing leadership struggles in Nigeria. He specifically criticized Obasanjo’s leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2007 elections, where candidate imposition became a norm. He argued that this practice turned democracy into a mere shadow of authoritarianism, stripping it of its true essence.

“The consequences of candidate imposition have been far-reaching, as it contributed to political instability, which later fueled the social and economic challenges Nigeria faces today,” Lukman wrote, adding that this approach was followed by subsequent administrations and has worsened under current leadership.

Lukman concluded by calling on Obasanjo to accept accountability for the role he played in shaping Nigeria’s troubled political landscape, emphasizing the need for leaders to focus on genuine solutions rather than bask in the “vain glory” of past achievements.
