The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has firmly rejected claims that it approved a “lung-cleansing herbal tea”…Lung-Cleansing Tea For Smokers? NAFDAC Exposes Fake Health Claims
designed for smokers.
In a statement released on Saturday, NAFDAC’s Director-General, Mojisola Adeyeye, clarified that the product, known as Lungitox (Smokers Pride), was never granted registration.
NAFDAC revealed that an application for the product’s registration was submitted but was outrightly rejected due to the dangerous and unfounded claim that smoking could somehow be made “healthy” by using this tea. The agency emphasized its unwavering commitment to protecting public health and ensuring that only safe, effective, and scientifically backed products are authorized.
The statement read, “NAFDAC has become aware of a misleading video circulating on social media, falsely suggesting that the Agency approved a herbal product claiming to make smoking healthy. We categorically state that such claims are completely false. The product—Lung Detox Tea, Lungitox (Smokers Pride), or any similar product—has not been registered by NAFDAC. The application for registration was rejected due to the baseless and harmful assertion that smoking could be made ‘healthy’ through consumption of this product.”
NAFDAC reiterated its mission to safeguard public health by ensuring that only products backed by scientific evidence and proper testing are allowed on the market. The agency also condemned any attempts to mislead the public and endanger lives with false claims.
NAFDAC urged the public to disregard the circulating video and report any suspicious products or claims to the Agency through official channels.
For further inquiries, Nigerians can contact NAFDAC via 0800-162-3322, email sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng, or visit the official website at www.nafdac.gov.ng. The agency affirmed its commitment to taking decisive action against anyone found violating public health standards.
