Reports that the panel was formed on September 30 by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, following claims that Bobrisky had bribed officials to avoid serving time in prison after his conviction for money laundering. The panel was tasked with investigating allegations that Bobrisky served his sentence in luxury accommodations instead of prison.

Presenting the findings on Monday, Uju Agomoh, Executive Director of the Prisoners’ Rehabilitation and Welfare Action (PRAWA), said no evidence was found to suggest Bobrisky served his sentence outside prison walls. However, it was confirmed that he enjoyed several privileges during his time at both Medium and Maximum Security Custodial Centres.

The panel’s report indicated that Bobrisky was housed in a furnished single cell with amenities like a humidifier, television, and fridge. He also had regular visits from family and friends, access to self-feeding, and even designated inmates to run errands for him.

While these privileges were granted, the panel recommended further investigation to determine if financial incentives or corruption among correctional officers were involved. The report highlighted concerns about unequal treatment of inmates based on their social or economic status, calling for clearer guidelines to prevent discriminatory practices in the future.
