Major Shake-Up Ahead As Tinubu, APC Move To Restructure NWC, Presidency
According to Ireporter Online, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu have concluded plans to reinforce the party’s leadership framework while introducing strategic reforms within the Presidency, subject to any last-minute adjustments.
Sources familiar with the development disclosed that, apart from the offices of the National Chairman and Vice Chairman, other positions within the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) are expected to be redistributed among the six geopolitical zones to promote broader inclusion and balance.
Party insiders said the initiative is designed to accommodate the interests of governors who recently joined the APC, while also strengthening internal unity ahead of the party’s forthcoming congresses and national convention.
It was further learned that notwithstanding recent public statements by the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, both the party leadership and the Presidency are reassessing elements of the presidential ticket arrangement as well as the information management structure at the Presidential Villa. Although specifics of the proposed adjustments have not been made public, the review is said to be part of wider efforts to reposition the administration and align party strategy with evolving political dynamics.
Meanwhile, the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), led by Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has expressed readiness to collaborate closely with the APC national leadership to promote responsible communication and collective discipline within the party. The governors noted that such cooperation would help enhance public trust in the party’s democratic processes.
In a communiqué released after its extraordinary meeting, the PGF reaffirmed its commitment to deepening internal democracy, strengthening party institutions, and pursuing reforms that foster transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness across all levels of the APC nationwide.
The forum also reviewed and endorsed the proposed timetable and operational guidelines for the upcoming ward, local government, state, zonal congresses and the national convention earlier approved by the party’s National Executive Committee. Emphasis was placed on transparent and coordinated financial management during the exercise to ensure fairness and accountability across all states, including those not governed by the APC.
Additionally, the governors announced plans to begin strategic engagements and state visits, starting with Taraba State, aimed at consolidating grassroots structures and improving party cohesion.
However, further findings indicate that discussions on the rotation of NWC positions among the geopolitical zones have been temporarily put on hold pending President Tinubu’s return from his official visit to Türkiye. A member of the APC National Working Committee, who spoke anonymously, said the final zoning decisions were deferred to allow for the President’s input.
The source revealed that considerations include the possible relocation of the presidential running mate position to the North-West, while the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation may be zoned to the North-East. The source added that the President’s guidance would be crucial in redistributing other positions in consultation with party governors to ensure smooth harmonisation, particularly with states led by recently defected governors.
