De Bruyne, who had been sidelined since sustaining a hamstring injury during City’s Premier League opener against Burnley in August, finally returned as a substitute in the 57th minute at the Etihad Stadium.

Chants of ‘Oh Kevin De Bruyne’ resonated throughout the stands as the 32-year-old replaced Julian Alvarez. By that point, Pep Guardiola’s team was already leading with goals from Phil Foden and Alvarez.

De Bruyne’s entrance into the game further fueled City’s momentum, leading to three additional goals through Ben Jackson’s own goal, another from Foden, and a strike from Jeremy Doku, who made his comeback from injury in the second half.

Doku’s goal, fittingly, was orchestrated by a clever lofted pass from De Bruyne. While City has managed without De Bruyne, his world-class midfield prowess is expected to play a pivotal role in their quest to defend the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup titles.

Foden broke Huddersfield’s resistance in the 33rd minute, Alvarez added the second four minutes later, and De Bruyne’s introduction contributed to goals by Oscar Bobb, Foden, and a sublime assist for Doku’s finish.

In other FA Cup results, Premier League side Luton was held to a goalless draw by third-tier Bolton, and Nottingham Forest fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Blackpool.

West Ham played to a 1-1 draw against second-tier Bristol City, with Jarrod Bowen scoring for the Hammers before influential playmaker Lucas Paqueta was forced off with an injury. Tommy Conway equalized for Bristol City.

The FA Cup action continued later on Sunday, featuring a clash between Premier League heavyweights Arsenal and Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium.
