Men Are To Blame For Women’s Entitlement Mentality — Okey Bakassi Sparks Debate

According to Ireporter Online, Bakassi made the remarks during an appearance on the Honest Bunch Podcast, where he stated that many women have come to believe that their physical appearance guarantees them special treatment and an easier path in life.

He explained that everyday interactions between men and women in public spaces have contributed significantly to shaping this mindset. According to him, repeated gestures from men towards attractive women have gradually reinforced the belief that beauty alone can secure privileges without effort or hard work.

Bakassi further claimed that this social pattern has discouraged some women from prioritising personal development and hard work, as they begin to rely more on perceived advantages tied to appearance.

He cited common street-level expressions and behaviours in Nigerian cities, where men often offer assistance to attractive women with statements like “Fine girl, why you dey trek? Enter motor, I go drop you,” or “Fine girl no suppose dey trek,” noting that such remarks, though often intended as admiration or flirtation, contribute to shaping expectations.

He added that these repeated social cues create a cycle that strengthens the idea that physical beauty can exempt individuals from ordinary struggles or responsibilities, a mindset he believes has developed over time through consistent reinforcement within society.
