Midnight Terror On Omo Ghetto Set: Bimbo Thomas Recounts Armed Robbery Targeting Funke Akindele

According to Ireporter Online, Nollywood actress Bimbo Thomas has shared a chilling account of an armed robbery incident that disrupted the filming of Omo Ghetto Part Two in Ebute Metta, Lagos, revealing that the attackers appeared to be specifically searching for filmmaker and lead actress Funke Akindele.

Thomas, speaking during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, recalled that the cast and crew were lodged in a hotel when the incident occurred late at night. She explained that filming the movie, which portrays themes associated with street life, had already attracted frequent interference from hoodlums in the area, even before the robbery.

The actress noted that although she grew up in Ebute Metta and expected some level of familiarity and respect, the production team still had to rely heavily on security personnel to continue shooting without constant disruption. She said the robbery began around midnight with loud noises and shouts as the assailants attempted to force their way into the hotel.

According to Thomas, fear gripped everyone inside as she, Funke Akindele and others hid in the bathroom, praying and trying to protect Akindele’s identity. She said the situation was tense and confusing, as they struggled to decide what to do while the attackers moved closer.

She further disclosed that when the robbers eventually gained access, they insisted on seeing Akindele and repeatedly called her name. In an effort to shield her, the actresses tried unsuccessfully to hide Akindele under a bed before retreating to the bathroom.

Thomas recounted that the attackers later took Akindele outside and compelled her to sing and dance, a moment she described as deeply disturbing and frightening. She said she initially believed the attackers would simply steal valuables and leave, but quickly realised that Akindele was their main target.

Security operatives eventually intervened, forcing the attackers to flee. Thomas said some of the suspects were reportedly apprehended, while others were neutralised during the response.

She linked the incident to an earlier confrontation on set, where some individuals who had disrupted filming were arrested and compelled to apologise publicly, an action she believes may have provoked retaliation despite prior agreements with the local community.

Expressing gratitude for surviving the ordeal, Thomas said she was prepared to stand by Akindele regardless of the risk involved. She added that the experience reinforced her belief that their lives were spared by divine intervention, describing the night as one she would never forget.
