According to Ireporter Online, Nigerian midfielder Daniel Daga has been sentenced to six months in prison by a Norwegian court after being found guilty of committing a sexual act without consent. The 19-year-old, who plays for Molde FK, was also ordered to pay 10,000 Norwegian kroner in legal fees.

The verdict, delivered on Tuesday, March 10, aligns with the sentence requested by prosecutors. Daga’s lawyer, Astrid Bolstad, stated that the player was shocked by the decision and maintains his innocence, insisting that all actions occurred with consent. Bolstad confirmed that Daga intends to appeal the ruling and emphasized that the verdict is not yet legally binding, noting that the midfielder has continued training in recent weeks.

Molde FK released a statement describing the situation as difficult and confirming that Daga will not be selected for matches while the legal process continues. “Molde Football Club has a responsibility to take care of our employees responsibly, while also respecting the seriousness of the case and the burden it places on all involved,” the club said.

The club had previously announced in December that Daga would temporarily step away from training and match duties while the case was ongoing. Daga joined Molde ahead of the 2025 season, making 15 appearances and scoring three goals. Prior to his move to Norway, he played in the Nigeria Premier Football League with Enyimba FC and had spells at FC One Rocket and Dakkada FC.

Internationally, Daga represented Nigeria’s under‑20 national team and was the youngest player in the squad for the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup. He started every match until Nigeria was eliminated in the quarter-finals by South Korea, earning praise for his performances throughout the tournament.
