FG Begins Evacuation Of Nigerians In Iran Amid Rising Tensions
The Federal Government has initiated the evacuation of Nigerians in Iran who wish to return home amid rising tensions in the region. According to officials from the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), the operation is being coordinated by staff at the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran, who are guiding citizens safely across the Armenian border.
The Chairman and CEO of NIDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, confirmed in a post on on Tuesday that the evacuation is proceeding smoothly and that all Nigerians involved have been unharmed. She emphasized that embassy personnel remain on-site to provide support to evacuees, highlighting the government’s commitment to the safety and welfare of its citizens abroad.
The evacuation, carried out in cooperation with Armenian authorities, underscores the Federal Government’s vigilance over developments in the Middle East and its proactive measures to protect Nigerians during international crises.
Meanwhile, Nollywood actor Linc Edochie has urged youths in northern Nigeria to refrain from staging protests in support of Iran following the death of the country’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The actor issued the warning after demonstrations erupted in parts of northern Nigeria on February 28, 2026, expressing solidarity with Iran in the aftermath of a joint Israeli–U.S. airstrike that killed the leader.
Edochie, speaking in a video message on Facebook, cautioned that the escalating conflict could evolve into one of the most dangerous wars in modern history. He stressed that Nigeria lacks the capacity to engage with major global powers and advised citizens to exercise prudence to avoid drawing unwanted international attention.
“This may not directly concern us, but the global situation is alarming. Whether we are involved or not, a third world war has formally begun. It may not be fought in conventional ways, but it could be the deadliest conflict the world has ever seen,” he said. He urged protesters to leave the streets and allow the country to manage its affairs without attracting the attention of powerful nations.
