My Humility Is Not Cowardice” – Gov Yusuf Speaks On Kwankwaso

The governor made the appeal during the annual Hawan Nassarawa celebration, stressing that the progress of Kano must take precedence over personal and political disagreements. He urged all political actors in the state to close ranks and work collectively in the interest of residents, noting that unity among leaders is essential for sustainable development.

Governor Yusuf maintained that his administration remains focused on promoting peace, stability, and inclusiveness across Kano, adding that collaboration among stakeholders is necessary to overcome the state’s challenges. He referenced reconciliation efforts among political figures across the country, stating that Kano should not be left out of such moves where they serve the public good.

He also expressed concern over Kwankwaso’s absence at a recent public engagement attended by several reconciled political leaders, reiterating that the state requires the input of all stakeholders to move forward.

The governor further addressed perceptions about his leadership style, insisting that his calm and humble disposition should not be mistaken for weakness. He stated that his humility is a personal value rooted in his connection with the people, not a sign of fear or cowardice.

“I have never feared anybody in my life. My humility is not cowardice but a reflection of my good nature and closeness to the people,” he said.

Yusuf noted that his administration inherited multiple challenges but has continued to implement reforms aimed at restoring confidence and strengthening governance without unnecessary political tension. He added that decisions such as the suspension of the Hawan Daushe procession were taken purely on security grounds to safeguard lives and property.

He assured residents that his government would continue to prioritize peace, even when such decisions are unpopular, and reaffirmed his commitment to working with traditional institutions, particularly the Emir of Kano, whom he described as a symbol of unity and wisdom.

The governor expressed optimism that future cultural celebrations in Kano would be restored in full grandeur, reflecting the state’s rich heritage, while reiterating his administration’s commitment to ensuring that peace, unity, and development remain central to governance.
