Naomi Osaka Confirms Split from Renowned Coach Mouratoglou After Less Than a Year
Four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka has officially announced her separation from acclaimed tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou, ending their professional collaboration less than a year after it began.
According to updates monitored by iReporter Online, Osaka made the disclosure via her verified X handle, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to work alongside the French coach. “Merci Patrick… it was such a great experience learning from you,” she posted.
The partnership between Osaka and Mouratoglou, who is widely known for his long-standing mentorship of 23-time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams, began in September 2024. It was seen as a strategic move to reignite Osaka’s competitive edge following her return to the professional circuit after a year-long maternity break.
However, the Japanese tennis star, who took time off in 2023 to welcome her daughter, has struggled to regain her top form. Her current WTA ranking stands at 49, reflecting a challenging season marked by early tournament exits.
She was eliminated in the opening round of the French Open and reached only the third round at Wimbledon, further fuelling speculation about possible changes in her support team.
While no specific reasons were given for the split, observers believe Osaka’s current performance struggles may have influenced the decision to reassess her coaching direction.
The news marks another turning point in the career of the former world number one, who continues her efforts to re-establish herself among the sport’s elite.
