Natasha Responds To Akpabio Assassination Allegation Petition
Suspended Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has formally addressed a petition submitted by Senate President Godswill Akpabio to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, accusing her of criminal defamation and incitement.
Akpabio’s petition, dated April 3 and also forwarded to the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), stemmed from allegations made by Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan on April 1, where she claimed that Akpabio directed former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, to orchestrate her assassination in a way that would implicate her constituents….READ MORE….
In his petition, Akpabio described the allegations as “deliberate falsehoods” intended to harm his reputation, endanger his life, and incite public unrest. He emphasized the urgency of law enforcement intervention, calling the claims an orchestrated act of blackmail and character assassination.
Responding through her legal representative, Victor Giwa, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan confirmed receipt of the petition, maintaining that her statements were a sincere expression of fear for her safety and not a political ploy.
“She has responded to the petition. What she expressed was a genuine cry for help, not a calculated political move,” Giwa stated.
He further condemned the withdrawal of her security detail following her suspension from the Senate, noting that as a politically exposed individual, such an action left her vulnerable.
“If she has been suspended from legislative duties, that does not warrant stripping her of personal protection, especially given the nature of her concerns,” Giwa argued.
In a related development, a socio-political advocacy group, Movement for National Accommodation and Consensus for Continuity (MONACCO), has launched a national sensitization campaign in defense of Akpabio’s character.
During a press briefing in Gusau, Zamfara State, MONACCO’s National President, Salisu Isah, spoke in support of the Senate President, describing him as a friendly and approachable leader often misunderstood due to his informal demeanor.
“Senator Akpabio is sociable and known for his playful interactions. Unfortunately, these traits are sometimes misinterpreted, particularly by female colleagues,” Isah noted.
He referenced past examples, including incidents involving former NSA Col. Sambo Dasuki and former U.S. President Donald Trump, to underscore the dangers of public figures being misquoted or misunderstood.
According to Isah, the controversy surrounding Akpabio and Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan is politically driven and aimed at creating division within the Senate. He asserted that MONACCO would continue its outreach across all six geopolitical zones to combat misinformation and promote unity.
“We urge Nigerians to remain vigilant and not allow political opportunists to use false narratives to destabilize the nation,” he concluded.
